Second Inel Shipment Sent To Utah

The second portion of a low-level radioactive waste shipment from the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory to Envirocare in Tooele County, Utah, for treatment and disposal has been completed.

Along with last September’s shipment of about 10,000 pounds of waste, this month’s shipment of about 80,000 pounds contributes to the company’s agreement with the Department of Energy to accept waste from INEL and a number of other Department of Energy sites. It will test a process to encapsulate the waste in melted recycled plastic for disposal in Envirocare’s landfill.
