Awards Presented At Recent Annual Fairchild Banquet

Fairchild Air Force Base officials recognized annual award winners at a recent banquet:

Members of the 92nd Security Police Squadron were presented with the Neal Fosseen Base-Community Relationship Award. Fosseen, a former Spokane mayor, presented the award.

Senior Airman Michael Mugler of the 92nd Police Squadron was named Airman of the Year.

Technical Sgt. Rodney Heath, 92nd Communications Squadron, was named Noncommissioned Officer of the Year. Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year went to Senior Master Sgt. David Whitaker of the 92nd Supply Squadron. Master Sgt. Edward Mercer of the 92nd Operations Support Squadron was First Sergeant of the Year. Company Grade Officer of the Year was Capt. Theodore Shelton of the 92nd Security Police Squadron.

Fairchild employees who earned Civilian of the Year awards were Jennifer McDonald 92nd Service Squadron, in the supervisory category, and Gerald Johnson, 92nd Civil Engineering Squadron, in the nonsupervisory category.

Tamara Hartman, Spokane, has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall term at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Hartman.

The University of the State of New York’s Regents College announced its December 1995 graduates from the Inland Northwest. The students and their degrees are:

Thomas Clinton Jackson, Liberty Lake, associate in science, liberal arts; Sally Y. Gecas, Pullman, applied science in nursing; Verne S. Munn, Pullman, general business degree; and Rosemary McDougall, Spokane, associate in science, nursing.

Marine Cpl. Daniel M. Swain, son of John Swain, Newport, Wash., recently received a Meritorious Mast for outstanding service while assigned with 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Swain, a graduate of Priest River’s Lamana High School, joined the Marine Corps in 1991.

The Rev. Michael Treleaven, S.J., assistant professor of political science at Gonzaga University, has been elected to a two-year term as president of the United Nations Association of Spokane.

Treleaven has served on the board since 1993.

Andrew Klungland, Sprague, Wash., was named to the John Brown University’s Dean’s List of Distinguished Students for the fall semester. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Klungland and a junior majoring in journalism.
