Box Explodes, Injuring Alabama Priest

An Episcopal priest was injured Monday when he lifted a box from the back of his car and the package exploded.

The Rev. Mike Schnatterly walked to his kitchen after the explosion and was taken to a hospital, police said.

He was in fair condition in the intensive care unit of East Alabama Medical Center in this east-central Alabama town.

Police said the explosion shattered the back window of Schnatterly’s car, which was in a carport attached to his house.

Guy Mangrum, a neighbor, said he saw nails stuck in the carport ceiling and scattered around the car.
