Gunman Takes Woman’s Purse
A man robbed a woman of her purse at gunpoint Monday, 3-1/2 hours into the new year.
The first armed robbery of 1996 occurred on Wall between Second and Third, Spokane police said.
An 18-year-old woman told police she was leaving a friend’s apartment about 3:30 a.m. when a man stepped out of an alley, pointed a handgun at her and demanded her purse.
He threatened to kill her before telling her to walk away, police reported. The woman was not hurt.
The victim told police the robber was a black man in his 30s, about 5-foot-8 and 180 pounds. She said he had a mustache and was wearing a dark jacket.
