Abc Edges Nbc In Weekly Ratings

Scott Williams Associated Press

NBC’s Thursday lineup finished 1995 atop the ratings, but ABC’s No. 3 “Monday Night Football” lifted the Alphabet Network to prime-time victory despite the traditional low viewership of the holiday week.

Except for the Dallas-Arizona football game and ABC’s “20/20,” the rest of the Top 10 shows were repeats.

For the week of Dec. 25-31, ABC averaged a 9.2 rating and a 17 percent share of the TV audience, just ahead of NBC’s 9.1 rating, 17 share; CBS had an 8.0 rating, 15 share - just 54 percent of the U.S. audience.

A single ratings point equals 595,000 TV homes, or 1 percent of the nation’s 95.9 million TV households, estimated by Nielsen Media Research. Share is the percentage of sets tuned in during a given period.

The Fox Broadcasting Co., which programs only 15 of the 22 prime-time hours, earned a 5.4 rating, 10 share.

ABC’s “World News Tonight” held its lock as the top-rated evening newscast with a 9.7 rating, 16 share. NBC’s “Nightly News” had an 8.9, 17 share, and CBS’ “Evening News” trailed with a 7.7 rating, 16 share.
