Palestinians Await Release By Israel

Israel will release at least 1,100 Palestinian prisoners in the next several weeks, including several hundred supporters of militant Islamic groups.

The exact number of prisoners involved and the timetable for their release has yet to be finalized, Israeli officials said.

Israeli-PLO peace agreements call for the release of Palestinian prisoners sometime before Palestinian self-rule elections on Jan. 20, and Israel has agreed to speed up the process.
