Spokane Police Officer Dozes Off, Crashes And Totals Patrol Cruiser

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Spokane police officer suffered minor injuries when he dozed off and crashed his patrol car early Thursday, authorities said.

Damage to the patrol car was so extensive, the vehicle was considered a total loss, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.

The officer was driving on Assembly Road near Northwest Boulevard about 4 a.m. when he went off the road and hit rocks and a tree, Cottam said.

He was wearing his seat belt, and the car’s air bag activated.

Cottam refused to identify the officer. He said the patrol car had logged more than 100,000 miles and was about to be removed from service. , DataTimes
