Explosive Devices Found During Drug Raid

From Staff And Wire Reports

Police arrested three people on drug charges Friday night and removed two explosive devices from a South Hill home.

About 20 neighbors near the 3218 E. 33rd house were urged to either evacuate the area or retreat to their basements while a joint city-county bomb squad removed the devices from the house at 11:30 Friday night.

Police Sgt. Michael Yates said a man and woman were arrested on charges of growing marijuana in the basement of the house. Another man who drove up to the small red house was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.

Police did not release the names of the suspects.

Law enforcement officials have been monitoring the house for the past two weeks, working on a bust of the alleged pot-growing operation, Yates said.

He would not say how much marijuana was seized but indicated it was not a big bust. He also said police aren’t certain what type of explosives were seized.
