John Fehrs Edwall, Wash.

Service for John H. Fehrs, 85, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Strate Funeral Home, Davenport, Wash.

Mr. Fehrs, who was born in Crocker, S.D., died Wednesday.

He was a welder and a farmer.

Survivors include his wife Mary; two sons, Edward Fehrs of Cascade Locks, Ore., and Joe Fehrs of Big Fork, Mont.; four daughters, Shirley Ferguson of Clayton, Wash., Audrie Farrelly of Deer Park, Mary Ellen Fehrs of The Dalles, Ore., and Donna Rosett of Fort Worth, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Huebsch of Shilo, Tenn.; two sisters, Margaret Langhoff of Medford, Ore., and Dorothy Buddrius of Blanchard, Idaho.

Evert ‘Whitey’ Carlson Spokane

Service for Evert J. “Whitey” Carlson, 92, will be at 10 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Carlson, who was born in Sweden, died Monday.

He had lived in Spokane for more than 65 years and was a member of the Plasterers and Cement Finishers Union Local No. 72.

He was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Eagles Lodge No. 2.

His wife, Myrtle, died in 1983.

He is survived by one daughter, Sonja Littrell of Everett; four sons Keith and Carl Carlson, both of Spokane, Loyd Carlson of Orlando, Fla., and Mark Carlson of Nine Mile Falls; one brother, George Karlsson of Sweden; 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Elma Douglass Spokane

Service for Elma C. Douglass, 95, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home. Entombment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Her son, Harlan D. Douglass, is a well-known Spokane developer.

Mrs. Douglass, born in Clark, S.D., died Wednesday.

She had been a schoolteacher in Rapid City, S.D.

She was secretary-treasurer for Falcon Forms and a member of Spokane Home Builders Association Auxiliary.

Her husband, Harold J. Douglass, died in 1975.

Survivors include her son; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Glassesman of Rapid City, S.D.

Leona Sullivan Spokane

Service for Leona Sullivan is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Sullivan, born in Missoula, died Monday. She was a longtime resident of Spokane.

She worked as a singer and dancer with the United Service Organization, entertaining troops for 18 months during World War II. She sang with the Anson Weeks orchestra and appeared on Al Pearce’s radio show.

She retired in 1988 from Medical Service Corp.

Mrs. Sullivan volunteered at her voting precinct and Holy Family Hospital and participated in the annual tree of sharing.

She belonged to Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the North Central 1940s Alumni.

Survivors include her sister, Patty Brown of Yakima; a daughter, Maureen Backman of Spokane; three sons, George and Doug Alexander, both of Spokane, and David Alexander of Liberty Lake; and five grandchildren.

Martha Nickel Spokane

Service for Martha Nickel, 78, is at 1 p.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery Chapel, Trentwood. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nickel, a lifetime resident of Spokane died Wednesday.

She was raised in Pleasant View, Idaho.

She and her late husband, Herman Nickel, farmed in the Post Falls area for 20 years. In 1966 they moved to Spokane. She was a homemaker.

Her husband died in 1975.

Mrs. Nickel’s survivors include four daughters, Margaret Collinson of Post Falls, Evelyn Benham and Dorothy Nickel, both of Haines, Alaska, and Carolyn Petersen of Chewelah, Wash.; two sisters, Gertrude Holst of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Willa Beckmann of Spokane; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Dean Kalinoski Spokane

Memorial service for Dean Allen Kalinoski, 53, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Liberty Park United Methodist Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of the arrangements and cremation.

Mr. Kalinoski, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Thursday.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

He worked with his father until he started his own business, Dean Kalinoski Custom Framing. He retired in 1979

He was a member of the Corvette Club and the Home Builders Association.

Survivors include his wife, Jamie Kalinoski; and two sons, Brian and Jeff Kalinoski, and one sister Beth Marsal, all of Spokane.

Carole Nelson Kettle Falls, Wash.

Service for Carole Nelson, 79, is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash. Graveside services will follow at Meyers Falls Cemetery, Kettle Falls.

Mrs. Nelson died Tuesday.

Survivors include one brother, Woody Kennedy of Kettle Falls; five sisters, Velma Raber of Colville, Belle Calhoun of Payette, Idaho, Blanche Furgason and Norma Dahl, both of Spokane, and Pearl Phipps of Stevenson, Wash.

Douglas Turnwall Deer Park

Service for Douglas Walter Turnwall, 73, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Faith Lutheran Church, Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park.

Mr. Turnwall, a longtime resident of Deer Park, died Tuesday.

He graduated from Deer Park High School in 1940.

He was a combat veteran who served in the Army in the European Theater.

He worked as a maintenance mechanic at Kaiser Aluminum, Mead Works, before retiring in 1982.

Mr. Turnwall was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Chokes & Spokes Antique Auto Club, Deer Park Cruisers Auto Club, Eagles Aerie No. 2 and United Steelworkers of America Local 329.

Survivors include his wife Ann M. Turnwall; three daughters, Marie Milliken and Natalie Haubert both of Spokane, and Carol Lane of Moses Lake; and seven grandchildren.

Edna Wainwright Deer Park

Service for Edna P. Wainwright, 85, is set for 10:30 a.m. today at Colbert Chapel. Private burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wainwright, who was born in Kansas City, Mo., died Sunday.

She had lived in Deer Park for more than 60 years.

She cooked for Riverside School District for 35 years and had worked for the Weather Bureau for more than 20 years.

She was a 4-H leader for Spokane County for 40 years and was a member and Sunday school teacher at the United Methodist Church of Deer Park.

Her husband, Jack Wainwright, died in 1981.

Mrs. Wainwright is survived by one daughter, Lynn Myers of Mead; one son, Dale Wainwright of Newport, Wash.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Lenora Webster Spokane

Service for Lenora C. Webster, 88, will be at 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Webster died Tuesday.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Daughters of the Nile, and several flower and Bridge clubs.

Her husband, Kenneth, died in 1992.

Survivors include one brother, William Tirk of Spokane; and four sisters, Viola McFarlane and Violet Morley, both of Everett, and Margaret Moore and Helen McCracken, both of Phoenix, Ariz.

Marie Galina Spokane

Service for Marie J. Galina, 104, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Galina, who was born in France, died Thursday.

She was a 39-year resident of Spokane.

She worked as a nurse in Algeria from 1938 to 1956 and came to the United States in 1957.

Her husband, Henri Galina, died in 1937.

Survivors include one daughter, Renee King of Spokane; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Albert L. ‘Red’ Ray Spokane

Memorial service for Albert L. “Red” Ray, 83, will be at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ray, who died Dec. 24, was born in Surrey, N.D. He graduated from high school in North Dakota and graduated from normal school in Minnesota.

He moved to the Northwest in the 1940s and worked on Grand Coulee Dam.

He moved to Spokane 55 years ago and owned a filling station and Imperial Dry Cleaners.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

His first wife, Helen, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Margo; three daughters, Esther Ray Mills, Elaine Maule and Phyllis Harbour; one son, Edward Ray; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Elmer Henson Spokane

Inurnment services for Elmer Isaac Henson, 77, will be held at a later date. The Cremation Society Of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Henson, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Sunday.

He served in the Army during World War II in both Germany and Japan and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

After the war, Mr. Henson worked for the U.S. government in Korea, closing down post exchanges.

He also served as a missionary in Japan.

Mr. Henson worked for the Milwaukee Railroad in Spokane and for the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service on the Mexican and Canadian borders.

He owned and operated a floral shop in Spokane and then sold it and started a custom drapery and installation service.

Survivors include his sister, LaVina Henson Swetzer of Twin Lakes, Idaho; and one brother Isaac Henson of Spokane.

Neil Stillwell Spokane

Service for Neil O. Stillwell, 86, was last Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial was at Moran Prairie Cemetery.

Mr. Stillwell, who died Dec. 25, was born on Moran Prairie in Spokane.

A longtime Spokane resident, Mr. Stillwell was a member of Carpenters Union Local No. 98 and had worked for Spokane School District 81.

His wife, Violet Stillwell, preceded him in death.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharlene Heft, at home, and Lynn Bartholomew of Canoga Park, Calif.; one son, Brian Stillwell of Tacoma; one brother, Joe Stillwell of Spokane; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Clifford Trevithick Spokane

Service for Clifford V. Trevithick, 83, was last Saturday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Born in Mondovi, Wash., Mr. Trevithick died Dec. 27.

He had lived in Oroville, Wash., where he worked as an accountant and orchardist. He moved to Spokane 22 years ago.

He was a member of Non-Denominational Fellowship.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois; three daughters, Deanna Bramhall of Spokane, June Bickford of Federal Way, Wash., and Barbara Peck of Forest City, Iowa; one son, Ron Trevithick of Anchorage, Alaska; one sister, Doris Crawford of Greenview, Calif.,; one brother, Paul Trevithick of Mead; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Charles Lefors Wildrose Prairie

Service for Charles Franklin Lefors, 53, was last Saturday at First Baptist Church in Deer Park, where he was a member. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lefors, a former Spokane resident, died Dec. 26.

He was born in Gentry, Ark.

He was the former owner of the Ridpath Barber Shop and moved to the Wildrose Prairie area eight years ago from Spokane.

He had served in the Air Force.

He and his wife, Diana, operated an adult care facility for the past seven years.

Mr. Lefors is survived by his wife; one daughter, Dawn Hanson of Kennewick; one son, Matthew Lefors at home; his parents, Max and Hazel Lefors, of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Anna Boge Spokane

Memorial service for Anna Othmer Boge, 94, will be at a later date in Spokane. Northern Nevada Memorial Society of Reno, Nev., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Boge, who was born in Germany, died Dec. 22 in Carson City, Nev., while visiting her daughter.

She immigrated to Kellogg in 1919 and moved to Spokane in 1922.

Her first husband, Henry Balke, died in 1941.

Mrs. Boge operated a bakery stand in the Old Benewah Market until 1946, when she married Einar Boge, who owned Boge’s Bakery. He died in 1965.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Carr of Carson City, Nev.; two sons, James Boge of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Richard Boge of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Thomas Morris Spokane

Service for Thomas W. Morris, 83, was last Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home, with burial at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Morris, who died Dec. 21, was born in Medimont, Idaho.

He worked as a pathology assistant at Sacred Heart Medical Center lab and retired in 1974 after 17 years.

He was a 67-year Spokane resident and was a member of Liberty Park United Methodist Church and Eagles Lodges Nos. 2 and 3433.

Mr. Morris is survived by two daughters, Carol Hare of Spokane and Betty Hargrove of Three Forks, Mont.; two sons, Don Morris of Southwick, Maine, and Joe Lavender of Kansas; and eight grandchildren.

Odielle Phillips Spokane

No service will be held for Odielle H. Phillips, at her request. HennesseySmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Phillips, who died Dec. 27, was born in Amasa, Mich. She was 89.

A resident of Spokane since 1924, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of Valley Elks Lodge.

Her husband, Ralph Phillips, died in 1986.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lou Wolter of Spokane; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jasper Carolus Spokane

No service will be held for Jasper R. Carolus, at his request. Burial of the urn was at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Carolus, 92, died Dec. 23.

He was born in Hartline, Wash., and had lived in Spokane since 1942.

He had worked as a salesman in the siding and roofing business for many years before retiring in 1965.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Almira Masonic Lodge 127.

He is survived by numerous stepchildren.

Arlene Greene St. Maries

Service for Arlene M. Greene, 65, was Tuesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. Maries. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home of St. Maries was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Greene, who was born in Kendrick, Idaho, died Dec. 27.

She grew up and graduated from high school in Kendrick in 1948. She married Benjamin Greene that same year and moved to Lewiston.

She moved to St. Maries in 1955 and became a homemaker.

Mrs. Greene was a Cub Scout den mother and enjoyed growing flowers for competition at the Benewah County Fair. She also enjoyed fishing and polishing rocks. She loved her cats and nature.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, William of Seoul, Korea, and Steven of St. Maries; one daughter, Diana Kohn of El Paso, Texas; two brothers, Delmer and Roy Riley, both of Spokane; one sister, Lee Hazeltine of Clarkston, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.
