Cover Protects Entire Bike Chain Assembly
Product: Chain Check chain cover
Description: A 200-denier coated nylon cover designed to wrap around the entire deraileur, rear cluster, chain, front sprockets, crank and pedal of your bike.
Comes in either yellow, green, fuchsia or turquoise, all with a black perimeter.
Pro: Fits any bike, be it road or mountain. Provides a super first line of defense protecting your bike’s chain from dust and grit while sitting stored in your garage or hanging from an apartment wall on the balcony.
Works well to prevent pedal-to-pedal lockup (a bit like young bucks locking antlers and just as hard to separate) when carrying your bikes on a rear-mounted rack. A side benefit is that with the Chain Check installed, tiny fingers from curious babies or toddlers are not as likely to become entangled or pinched in the chain and gearing of your bike.
Excellent protection for your vehicle’s interior. Easy to put on and take off with the continuous installation tab running around the perimeter of the Chain Check - no dirty or greasy fingers here. Folds up and store compactly under the seat of your car or in the trunk when not in use.
Con: If your bike has a rear rack, as mine does, the Chain Check does not seat well around the rear cluster since the vertical supports of the rack push the cover away.
The problem could be solved by cutting a slit in the cover with a Velcro securing tab so that the cover would then nest around the vertical support and also be allowed to snug and cinch around the rear cluster. A quick call to the manufacturers of Chain Check indicated that they would consider such a fix in future designs.
Comments: No more worries about dirt, grime and grease from a bicycle chain migrating onto your clean vehicle upholstery or travel luggage next time you attempt to transport your bike inside your car or van. The Chain Check such a simple and wonderful idea, I’m left baffled trying to understand why no one thought of it sooner.
