Boeing 737 Makes Emergency Landing

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Boeing 737 on its maiden “shakeout” test flight made an emergency landing Monday after a cockpit light indicated the jet’s auxiliary power unit was on fire, a Boeing spokesman said.

The plane, which carried only a five-person Boeing crew, landed safely at Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport, spokesman Steve Thieme said.

There were no signs of smoke or flames from the auxiliary power unit. The plane landed at 10 a.m.

The 737-300 had just come off the assembly line at Boeing’s Renton plant and took off Monday morning from Renton Municipal Airport, Thieme said. The crew had intended to conduct in-flight tests over Eastern Washington and land at Boeing Field in Seattle.
