Orr Boosts Vikings From Stripe

Junior guard Amber Orr hit four crucial free throws to put Coeur d’Alene ahead for keeps in a 41-39 non-league girls’ basketball win over St. Maries at Viking Gym.

The Vikings erased a nine-point deficit to start the fourth quarter, and outscored the Lumberjacks 17-6 in that frame.

Guard Carrie Cultra’s 14 points led Coeur d’Alene (4-12). Forward Andrea Wilkey contributed 13 rebounds, seven steals, two blocked shots and five points.

St. Maries (4-11) was led by Joley Kunkel’s 10 points.

The Vikings travel to meet Inland Empire League rival Post Falls on Thursday. The Lumberjacks play hosts that same night to red-hot Moscow in an Intermountain League game.

The Bears won their 14th straight game despite shooting just 25 percent from the field.

Moscow outrebounded the Greyhounds 37-22 and yielded just eight first-half points.

Post players Amy Lemm, Angie Sorbel and Danna Wilder combined for 32 points and 21 rebounds to lead the Bears (14-1).

The Gorillas mustered just one third-quarter point - a free throw with 58 seconds left - to help the visiting Badgers break the game open.

Becky Bateman and Amber Paulson each scored 12 points for Bonners Ferry (8-5).

Guard Katy Duley scored 18 points for the Spartans (7-7), who broke open a close game when foul trouble forced the Miners (5-10) to finish the game with just three players.

Senior center Joy Sperry topped all players with 31 points and 14 rebounds for Wallace.

Duley’s led a trio of double-figure scorers for the Spartans.

Both teams play Thursday, with Clark Fork visiting Priest River.

The Eagles couldn’t solve the Knights’ switching man-to-man defense, which shut out the visitors in the first quarter.

Lakeside, meanwhile, established a 13-0 lead and never looked back.

Margaret SiJohn’s 21 points sparked the Knights (4-0, 10-4) who maintained the NSL league lead.

Anna Pang’s 10 points led Falls Christian (2-2, 10-5).

A fourth-quarter rally by the Tigers fell short in a North Star League game at Harrison.

Mullan used a fullcourt press to outscore Kootenai 15-8 in the last period.

Forward Jayme Flint’s 16 points, 22 rebounds and two blocked shots paced Kootenai (2-2, 8-4).

The Warriors also got seven blocked shots and eight rebounds from 5-foot-8 Annie Goodson.

Katie Elwood’s 16 points topped Mullan (0-4, 1-11).

Kootenai is at Deary on Thursday.
