Idaho Player Awaits Sentence
Idaho basketball player Bjorn Magnussen’s sentencing for probation violations has been delayed until Jan. 29.
Magnussen was scheduled for sentencing on Tuesday in Moscow but was pushed back at the request of his attorney. Magnussen, a freshman center from Issaquah, Wash., has been suspended indefinitely but has been allowed to continue practicing.
Shooting competition
The Elks National Hoop Shoot free-throw shooting contest tips off with local competition in Coeur d’Alene Saturday.
About 85 boys and girls ages eight to 13, representing elementary schools in Kootenai County, will shoot off at North Idaho College beginning at 9 a.m.
The winners of the 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13 boys and girls divisions will advance to district competition Feb. 3 at NIC. State will be held March 1-2 at Wallace.
Last year, Bryan Klingaman of Rathdrum won local, district, state and regional contests in the 10-11 division to advance to the national finals in Indianapolis. He placed fifth in the nation.
Basketball clinic
The Lake City High School boys basketball coaches will conduct a free clinic for boys in the fourth through seventh grades Jan. 20 at LC.
The clinic will run from 10 a.m. to noon. No advance registration is required. All participants will receive free admission to the Lake City-Sandpoint game Feb. 1. Clinic awards will be presented at the game.
