Ap Honors Lobo As Top Female

Rebecca Lobo, who captivated the nation’s sporting public while leading Connecticut to the women’s NCAA basketball championship, was named The 1995 Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year.

The large local following Lobo had attracted at Connecticut spread across the country during the 1994-95 season as she and the Huskies went 35-0 and helped take the women’s game to new heights of popularity.

Lobo received 94 first-place votes and 774 points in balloting by a nationwide panel of sports writers and broadcasters. Tennis star Monica Seles was second with 600 points and 86 votes for first.
