Ferris Clearly Second After Victory At Mead

Dominating the bars and allaround, Ferris solidified its hold on second place Thursday by winning a four-way Greater Spokane League meet at Mead.

The Saxons (13-2) scored 40.4 on the bars, giving them the needed cushion to defeat the host Panthers (11-4), 161.1-155.05.

Liz Miller of Ferris won the all-around with a 34.5, including first-place scores in the vault (8.7), bars (8.8) and floor exercise (8.7).

Kacey Fredrickson (32.75) was third and Kim George (31.65) fourth in all-around for Ferris.

Mead’s Kelly Herron (32.95) finished second in the all-around, including a runner-up finish in the floor exercise (8.65). Shelly Betts of North Central (5-10) won the balance beam with an 8.5. NC defeated Lewis and Clark (1-14).

At Central Valley, pace-setting University (15-0) won its 18th consecutive league four-way, out-scoring the host and runner-up Bears 167.25-159.

U-Hi’s Kim Meyers won the all-around with 36.45 and captured each event, although teammate Tara Hulbert tied her with a 9.2 on the bars.

Kalie Cossette (34.40) of U-Hi was second and Lindsay Linerud (33.65) of CV third in the allaround.

Rogers (5-10) outscored Shadle Park (1-14).

Neither team had a top-three finisher.
