Girl Held After Taking Broken Gun To School

Marny Lombard Staff Writer

A 15-year-old girl was arrested Wednesday after taking an inoperable handgun to North Pines Junior High.

The .22-caliber pistol was broken, had no cylinder and no bullets, said Dave Bouge, North Pines principal. The student told others she had the gun, but threatened no one and handed the gun over to her teacher when told to do so.

The Central Valley School District will expel the student, and she will be charged with possession of a gun on campus, Bouge said.

The girl attended North Pines only 1-1/2 hours a day because of a long history of behavior problems. Central Valley School District had hired an aide to be with her at all times at North Pines. She was the only student at the school subject to such security measures.

The girl apparently intended to take the gun to someone off campus, Bouge said.

She attended North Pines because she had previously worked well with that particular teacher in a different program and officials hoped she could repeat that success.
