Oregon Loses Borges To Ucla

Compiled From Wire Services

Al Borges, the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Oregon last year, was named offensive coordinator at UCLA.

Borges was with the Ducks for just one season, and Oregon coach Mike Bellotti said he wanted “to help my assistants get to where they want to be, but the loyalty factor has to be taken into consideration.”

The NCAA has accepted Tennessee’s explanation for outfitting 19 football players with soccer cleats that violated rules during the Vols’ rain-soaked Citrus Bowl victory over Ohio State.

“It was totally unintentional and a mistake by one of our suppliers,” Tennessee athletic director Doug Dickey said, adding he will be sending Ohio State a letter of apology.
