Snow Sport Report

Compiled By Vince Dice And Rich

Alpine skiing

Despite a dearth of snow, Mount Spokane plans to open this weekend. Ski at your own risk. Ski Bluewood, meanwhile, remains closed pending about 8 more inches.

Think you’re fast? Find out against live competition at Schweitzer on Thursday evenings in the Star Light Star Night Race Series. Five-person teams race a dual giant slalom format, with participants getting $5 lift tickets. Info: 208-263-9555.

Nordic skiing

With feds back to work, North Idaho’s avalanche

forecast returns. Updated every Friday. Call (208) 765-7223.

Priest Lake State Park will offer a free class for cross country skiers tomorrow from 9 a.m to 3 p.m.

The class features demonstrations from rangers, two hours of guided skiing and a $10 equipment rental package. Info: 208-443-2200.

For good conditions, go to Mt. Spokane Park, which groomed 1 new inches Thursday. For bad conditions, go to Newport, which isn’t grooming at all because of its lack of snow.

Snowmobiling

Idaho’s Wallace Ranger still reports poor snow

conditions on trails below about 3,500 feet elevation. Some popular trails, including Elsie Lake, closed for winter because of landslides. Moon Pass technically closed, but some snowmobilers are finding ways around slides. For grooming info, call Old Mission State Park, (208) 682-3814.
