Teen Doesn’t Know Why She Poisoned Baby
A 15-year-old baby sitter pleaded guilty Thursday to deliberately poisoning a 2-1/2-year-old boy she was taking care of last September, but Dawn Gauchay said she still doesn’t know why she killed the child.
An autopsy showed Joshua Norman died last September of a lethal dose of codeine and a quantity of Pine-Sol, a household cleaner.
Gauchay pleaded guilty before District Judge Ted Lympus.
She testified she knew the cough syrup dosages would harm the child.
Gauchay will be sentenced on the murder charge Feb. 15.
She is being held in the Kalispell youth detention center without bond.
Deputy Flathead County Attorney Ed Corrigan said he will recommend a 40-year sentence, including intense psychiatric therapy.
