U.S. Revokes Visa Of Ex-Bolivian President

Compiled From Wire Services

The United States has revoked the visa of a former Bolivian president over his alleged ties to drug trafficking, a senior Clinton administration official said Friday.

Visas issued to Jaime Paz Zamora, who served as Bolivia’s president from 1989 to 1993, and to two other prominent Bolivians were revoked about two weeks ago, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Paz Zamora is a former Marxist who fought against Bolivia’s military dictatorships in the late 1970s. The allegations have stemmed from his relationship with accused cocaine trafficker Isaac Chavarria.
