New Faces:
Wayne Heggemeier, a graduate of Washington State University, has joined Metropolitan Property and Casualty Insurance Co.’s Spokane sales department as a property and casualty specialist. Heggemeier will offer marketing and servicing support for customers in the Spokane market area.
Ricky Wheeler has been named sales manager for hotels in Spokane and North Idaho which are owned or operated by Hospitality Associates of Spokane. Hotels in her region include the Rodeway Inn City Center and the Comfort Inn Broadway, both Spokane; Comfort Inn and Holiday Inn Express, Coeur d’Alene; Inn At Priest Lake, Coolin, Idaho, and Connie’s Best Western in Sandpoint. Wheeler previously operated a balloon shop in Coeur d’Alene.
Darlene Klister, a paralegal with the Spokane law firm of Paine, Hamblen, Coffin, Brooke & Miller, has been named a director of the Washington State Paralegal Association. Sheri Olsen, who works for Lukins & Annis P.S. as a paralegal, has been named treasurer of the statewide organization.
Dr. Michael Gillum, of the Physicians Clinic of Spokane, and Bridget Piper, of Sterling Savings, have recently joined the VNA Home Health Care Services board of directors.
Moving Up:
Joe Clements, an Edward Jones representative in Spokane, has become a part owner in St. Louis-based Jones Financial Cos. Clements has been with Edward Jones since 1987 and has served the Spokane area for eight years. He will remain in Spokane.
James Hughes has been named agency manager of the Country Companies Spokane Agency. He replaces Dan Rushing, who has been named manager of another Country Companies agency in Illinois. Hughes joined the company in 1992 as an agent in the Central Washington agency. He has been an agency development specialist since 1994.
Starting Up:
W. Berry Fowler has founded The Krypton Institute, which offers comprehensive training and support to small business owners. The Spokane-based institute offers a five-day course and follow-up consultation for independent business people. Fowler founded and was chairman of Sylvan Learning Systems and the Little Gym International. He has more than 17 years of consulting experience with growth companies nationwide.
Transactions:
Terry Sullivan has sold his ownership interest in Windermere Real Estate/Manito Inc. to business partners Joe Nichols and Cate Moye. Sullivan will remain a member of the Spokane Association of Realtors and keep his role as director in the Washington Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. He plans to focus on developing four South Hill plats, consulting with new home sales and marketing specialists and managing his own investment properties.
Feed Specialties in the Spokane Industrial Park has been renamed ADM Animal Health & Nutrition to reflect its affiliation with a national division of Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. ADM bought Feed Specialties, a manufacturer of vitamin and mineral premixes for 500 Inland Northwest customers, in 1994. The Spokane-based company at that time was called the Leo Cook Co.

VNA Home Health Care Services has elected new officers of the board: Sue Devaney, Central Pre-Mix Concrete Co., chair; Rick Fike, K.K. & R. Pharmacies Inc., vice chair; Mike Wilson, Sacred Heart Medical Center, secretary; Tom LaLone, Lloyd’s Appliance & TV Center, treasurer.
BDO Seidman LLP has re-elected Daniel Pavelich as chairman of the board. Pavelich is managing partner of the accounting firm’s Spokane office. He is a 26-year veteran of BDO Seidman and has served two previous consecutive three-year terms on the board. Pavelich is the firm’s designated industry specialist in mining and forest products.
Kudos:
The Boat Shop of Spokane was named one of Honda Marine’s top dealers. The awards were given to the ten dealerships who sold the most Honda 4-stroke outboard engines throughout the year. Larry and Patsy Bennett accepted the award for The Boat Shop of Spokane.
Dean Haagenson, president of Contractors Northwest Inc., received an award of merit, in the Associated Builders and Contractors’ 1995 Excellence in Construction Awards competition. The award was given for the Coldwater Creek Office Building in Sandpoint.
G. Eugene Harder of McFarland & Alton was presented the Bo Engstrom Award by the Inland Pacific Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors. The award recognizes personal excellence through enthusiasm, initiative, integrity and outstanding service to the chapter and to ABC.
