UW Sub Guns Down Ducks Huskies Match 1994-95 Victory Total As Hartman Has Career-High 23 Points
Reserve Jason Hartman scored a career-high 23 points, including the 3-pointer that put Washington ahead for good, as the Huskies beat Oregon 72-69 Saturday at Eugene, Ore.
Hartman was 4-for-4 from the field in the second half, three of them 3-pointers.
His 3-pointer with 3:33 left put Washington ahead 68-65. The Huskies (9-4 overall, 2-2 Pac-10) matched the number of victories they had all of last season and ended a five-game losing streak to the Ducks (9-5, 2-1).
Todd MacCulloch made two free throws to boost Washington’s lead to 70-67, then blocked Kenya Wilkins’ attempt for a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.
After MacCulloch’s free throws, Oregon’s Rob Ramaker shot an air ball on the first half of a one-and-one free throw opportunity. Then Jamar Curry of the Ducks fouled Bryant Boston as he took an off-balance shot with just 2 seconds showing on the shot clock.
Boston made one of two free throws to put Washington ahead 71-67. Wilkins, just 2-for-12 from the field, sank an 8-foot jumper with 52 seconds to go to make it 71-69. Hartman then made one of two free throws to complete the scoring with 33 seconds left.
Before Hartman’s go-ahead 3-pointer, Curry made an outside shot that would have given Oregon a 67-65 lead. But Oregon’s coaching staff had been trying to call time out, and the officials finally saw the signal with three-tenths of a second left on the shot clock, nullifying the basket.
Oregon committed a season-high 25 turnovers and missed nine of 22 free throws. Milling and Wilkins made all 12 of theirs. The rest of the Ducks were 1-for-10.

(17) UCLA 93, California 73
Kris Johnson scored a career-high 36 points as the Bruins (11-3, 4-0) defeated the Golden Bears (8-4, 3-1) to gain sole possession of first place and stop Cal’s three-game winning streak at Pauley Pavilion in Westwood, Calif.
No team since Notre Dame from 1977-80 had won four straight on UCLA’s home floor, and the loss dropped California out of a first-place tie.
Playing in front of his father, Marques, a member of UCLA’s 1975 NCAA championship team, Johnson outshone Cal freshman Shareem Abdur-Rahim, the Pac-10’s leading scorer.
Abdur-Rahim led the Bears with 25 points, but was held to one field goal and six points in the second half while hardly touching the ball.
Toby Bailey added 17 points and Charles O’Bannon had 14 for UCLA, winners of nine straight games since starting the season 1-2 at the Maui Invitational.
Cal had taken an early lead in its three previous Pauley Pavilion wins, but this time, the Bruins controlled the first half behind Johnson’s 25 points. Cal led just twice before the intermission.
Johnson, an overweight, seldom-used backup last season when the Bruins won their first national title in 20 years, led a dominating inside game. Playing at 220 pounds, 30 less than last season, he repeatedly broke through Cal defenders for layins or putbacks.
So good were the Bruins in the paint, they didn’t score an outside basket until 4:30 remaining in the first half.

(18) Arizona-St. Joseph’s, canceled
After the Wildcats (11-3), scared off by the forecast of poor weather, canceled their travel plans, the Hawks (4-5) staged a mock lineup introduction and opening tipoff as the sun filtered into the Palestra in Philadelphia.
