Clark Fork Crushes Kootenai

Leading scorer Hailey Scofield missed Saturday’s Clark Fork game while playing with an elite team in Arizona, but the Wampus Cats still had an elite game.

Amy Longstreet scored 24, Carla Haller had 13 rebounds and Sasha Storaasli added eight steals as Clark Fork (3-2, 8-7) beat visiting visiting Kootenai 61-39 in a North Star League game.

The Wampus Cats’ press led to a 10-0 third-quarter run. Jamie Bornitz scored 16 for the Warriors (2-3, 8-5).

Laurie Vallieres had five assists and contributed important free throws and a 3-pointer as the Grizzlies (4-2, 9-3) created a three-way tie for first place with an upset over the third-ranked Bulldogs (5-1, 11-1).

Vallieres had two free throws to tie the game at 40 to end the third quarter. Her 3-pointer early in the fourth gave the Grizzlies a 45-41 lead and charged a 10-2 run. Newport’s Michele Carrara had 12 points and nine rebounds.
