Cubans To Lead Search For Guevara’s Remains
Cuban experts on Monday took over the search for the remains of guerrilla leader Che Guevara, who was killed by the Bolivian army in 1967.
Argentine forensic experts had been heading the search, and late last year found the skeletons of three guerrillas who fought with Guevara.
The Argentines returned home Monday, and three Cuban geophysicists took over the project.
The government ordered the dig after two retired army generals involved in Guevara’s capture and burial disclosed last month that the guerrilla leader and some of his followers were buried under an airstrip in southern Bolivia.
Guevara, an Argentine doctor-turned-guerrilla, fought alongside Fidel Castro during the communist revolution in Cuba, and became that country’s second most influential leader.
