Ewu Students Receive Health-Care Scholarships
Four Eastern Washington University students from Spokane have received $1,000 Wittenbach Trust scholarships in health care. The scholarship was established by the late Minnie Wittenbach for students majoring in health-care programs at EWU.
The students and the high schools they graduated from are:
Stephanie G. Milla, a 1994 graduate of Central Valley, is the daughter of Bonnie J. Mahoney, Veradale, and John P. Milla, Spokane. She is a junior majoring in physical therapy.
Terry Kelly Schultz, son of Peggy and Monty Schultz, Spokane, is a senior biology/physical therapy student and a 1991 graduate of Ferris High School. Schultz is a member of the EWU Physical Therapy Club and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity.
Holly Haupt, a 1991 Mead graduate and daughter of Wendy and Jim Boggs, Spokane, is a junior majoring in dental hygiene.
Paul R. Hilmo, a graduate of Cheney High, is a senior physics major. He is the son of Myrna L. and Russell J. Hilmo, Tacoma.
Five area high school seniors are finalists for the 1996 Debut Northwest Performing Arts Scholarship. The winner will be announced Jan. 26. The students are:
Brian Bowen, Shadle Park High School, has participated in theater performances at Shadle and Spokane Civic Theatre and with the Rogue Players. Bowen plays the clarinet in Shadle Park’s pep and marching bands.
Ian Hodges, who attends REAL High School and composes music, works with several groups whose music ranges from folk to alternative. Hodges hopes to attend Selkirk Music Academy in Nelson, British Columbia.
Jenny Hutchens, Rogers High School, has performed with Rogers’ concert, symphonic and women’s choirs and the Garland Avenue Alliance Church Choir.
Christopher Knight, Rogers, plays the guitar, piano and trumpet in several bands at Rogers and also composes music. Knight is a member of the National Honor Society.
Frencessa Kobe-Smith, a North Central High School student, is interested in dance and movement and hopes to study at Mills College in Oakland, Calif.
Joshua Adams, a 1993 graduate of University High School, recently completed his fifth semester at the University of Idaho in civil engineering while maintaining a 4.0 grade-point average. Adams, son of Jane Lindstrom, Spokane Valley, and Tom Adams, Spokane, received a $500 Oscar Schumacher scholarship in December.
Next semester, he will attend Deakin University at Geelong in Victoria, Australia.
