Fund Benefits Cda Shelter
A foundation established last year in memory of Nicole Brown Simpson gave a $2,000 grant to the Coeur d’Alene Women’s Center Thursday.
The Nicole Brown Simpson Charitable Foundation awarded grants to 77 shelters across the country to increase awareness of family violence. The Women’s Center was the only recipient from Idaho, Washington or Montana.
Holladay Sanderson, Women’s Center executive director, said the grant will be used as seed money to hire a development director to increase funding for the center.
The Nicole Brown Simpson charity was set up last year by sister Denise Brown, after O.J. Simpson was charged with the murders of Brown Simpson and friend Ron Goldman. Brown Simpson had accused the ex-football star of battery before her death.
The foundation has no paid officers and gave out $163,500 in grants last year.
The Women’s Center provides 24-hour crisis intervention, advocacy and shelter for victims of domestic violence, rape and sexual assault.
