Meyers, Cossette Power U-Hi Toward Title

Led by Kim Meyers and Kalie Cossette, University clinched at least a tie for its fourth consecutive Greater Spokane League gymnastics title.

Meyers won the uneven bars, balance beam and all-around (35.1 points) Thursday as the Titans (18-0) swept a four-way meet at Ferris against two of their closest pursuers.

The host Saxons, 15-3, would need to sweep Thursday’s final league four-way and have U-Hi fall flat. Considering that U-Hi has won 19 consecutive GSL four-ways, its fifth outright title in six years appears imminent.

Cossette, who won the floor exercise and vault, scored 34.75 for second in the all-around. U-Hi scored 168.2, its second-best total of the year.

Liz Miller (33.95) was third in the all-around as her Saxons scored a season-high 162.05. Kelly Herron (9.1) in the floor and Marki Stewart (8.7) in the vault finished second for Mead (12-6). Rogers (5-13) trailed.

At Lewis and Clark, Lindsey Linerud won the vault, beam, floor and all-around (33.35) to lead Central Valley (12-6) to a four-way sweep and a tie for third place.

CV’s Sarah Shyrack (31.35) was second in the all-around without finishing higher than third in any event. North Central (7-11) was runner-up, led by Emily Jones’ title in the bars. Shadle Park (2-16) edged the host Tigers (1-17).
