Work On Schedule On New Intel Plant
Construction on a new Intel Corp. computer-assembly plant in DuPont is on schedule, company officials say.
In addition, entry-level workers will earn 50 cents an hour more than previously announced, they told about 120 people at a Wednesday meeting arranged by the Tacoma-Pierce County Economic Development Board.
Concrete pads for the first phase of the project - a 370,000-square-foot assembly plant and a 330,000-square-foot office building - are nearly complete, said Bill Calder, public information manager for the computer-chip company.
“We’re on target to open the assembly plant this summer and the office building by the end of the year,” he said.
Mark Varah, a production manager, said the starting wage would be $7.50 an hour, compared with $7 an hour the company had talked about two months ago.
