Tigers Beat Rangers For 10th Win A Row

Republic outgunned Selkirk 17-6 in the third period and then iced the game at the free throw line late in the fourth quarter to post a 51-47 win in Panorama League play Saturday night in Republic.

It was the tenth straight win for the Tigers (13-2, 10-1), who sit atop the North Division. The tenth-ranked Rangers (12-3, 9-2) saw their 11-game winning streak come to an end.

Jason Baldwin scored a game-high 20 points for Republic, while teammate Mark Rickard totaled 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Nathan Dial’s 11 points topped Selkirk.

Dan Kuney came off the bench to score all 11 of his points over the final nine minutes and rally the South Division-leading Dragons (13-2, 11-0) to a win over the visiting Redskins (8-6, 6-5).

Dominic Tonasket scored a game-high 23 points for Wellpinit. Adrian Holt and Perry Pakootas each added 14 points.

Jason Ala and Dylan Averett scored 18 and 17, respectively, for the Dragons who have won nine in a row.

Jeremy Affeldt scored 10 of his game-high 23 points during a pivotal third quarter to lead the Crusaders (10-5, 8-3) to a win over the host Mustangs (6-9, 4-7).

Andy Jiminez had 19 points and Guy Baribault had 11 points and 14 rebounds for Northport.

Zach Klaja chipped in with 15 points for the Crusaders. Teammate Paul Mortlock scored 12.

The Hornets (5-8, 5-6), behind the 20 points of Shawn Christianson, hit 51 percent of their shots en route to a win over the host Chargers (4-11, 3-8).

Springdale’s Ben Peterson notched game-high scoring honors with a 24-point effort. Teammate Josh McCurdy scored 20.

Mikey Finley finished with 14 points for Inchelium.

The Chargers, who are averaging 30 percent shooting from the floor, shot 38 percent on the night.

Jason Miller had 17 points, seven rebounds and blocked three shots to spark the Cougars (7-7, 5-6) to a win over the visiting Panthers (3-11, 2-9).

Cusick trailed by only eight points heading into the final quarter before being outscored 21-11.

Sonny Finley topped Cusick with 17 points and five steals.

Greg Belzer turned a steal into the go-ahead basket with 3:50 left to play as the Cougars (11-2, 8-0) held off the Eagles (8-6, 5-3).

Chewelah’s Chris Boone scored a game-high 21 points, while Jeremy Landram and Belzer scored 17 and 11, respectively.

Josh Miller’s 12 points topped Lakeside. Ben Spiger chipped in with 11 points, while George Petticrew and Billy Bender added 10 apiece.

Lakeside held a two-point advantage heading into the final quarter before being outscored 25-17.

Phil Rafter and Jordan Rafter combined for 14 fourth-quarter points to lead the Lancers (12-3, 9-1) to a come-from-behind victory over the visiting Gorillas (6-10, 4-7).

Davenport’s Cliff Swain led all scorers with 20. Teammate Tom Turnbough added 18.

Tim Cornwall had six steals to go along with his 10 points.

Nick Bates scored 18 to pace Colton.

Several area games were postponed Saturday night due to snow.

In the Northeast A League they were: Freeman at Colfax, Newport at Deer Park, and Medical Lake at Kettle Falls.

In the Bi-County League they were: Lind at Christian Heritage, Wilbur-Creston at Odessa, Sprague-Harrington at Reardan, and Almira-Coulee-Hartline at Ritzville.

In the Whitman County League they were: LaCrosse-Washtucna at Garfield-Palouse and Tekoa-Oakesdale at Rosalia.

Only the St. Michael’s at Columbia game was postponed in the Panorama League.
