Valley Woman Who Fired Gun Was Shot In Head
The Spokane Valley woman who fired a shotgun at a sheriff’s deputy was fatally shot in the head in return fire, according to a paramedic report obtained Tuesday.
John Pardee and two other deputies were trying to resolve a dispute between Lillian D. Lane and her husband, Michael, Monday afternoon.
The 39-year-old woman aimed a shotgun at Pardee’s chest and pulled the trigger.
Pardee’s bulletproof vest saved him from serious injury, but two pellets from the blast hit him in the right side of his head. One of the pellets lodged under the skin and the other grazed it, sheriff’s officials said.
All three deputies are on administrative leave while Spokane police and sheriff’s detectives investigate the shooting. The sheriff’s department wouldn’t release the names of the other two deputies.
Pardee, 48, has been a deputy and Valley resident for 16 years. He is married with two children.
Last year, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat of the Central Valley school board.
