Man Arrested On Assault Charge

A 38-year-old Spokane man has been arrested for nearly beating an acquaintance to death.

Clem L. Roberts, 12210 E. Lenora, is being held in the Spokane County Jail on a first-degree assault charge, authorities said.

Police refused to identify the 42-year-old victim, who was reported Wednesday night in critical condition at a Spokane hospital.

The assault occurred outside the Flame Restaurant at Sprague and Altamont at about 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Afterward, Roberts drove the injured man to the Circle K at Third and Altamont, where police and paramedics were called.

Roberts and the victim were acquainted, police said.
