Police: Woman Had Man Beat Up Her Husband
A Spokane woman accused of enlisting a man to beat up her husband is facing a conspiracy charge.
Melissa Blair watched as her husband, David, was severely beaten Tuesday in their North Side home.
Blair, 29, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, said Spokane Police spokesman Dick Cottam.
She was being held at the Spokane County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $5,000 bail.
In an interview behind bars, Blair denied the conspiracy charge.
“That’s a lie,” she said. “I still love the man. Why would I hire someone to beat him up in front of my kids?”
The mother of three claimed she’s the real victim.
Blair said she so fears being beaten by her husband that she asked a male friend to stop by her 4707 North Regal home Tuesday morning.
“I’m tired of being beaten up,” she said.
But police say the friend did her bidding by punching and kicking 37-year-old David Blair, who suffered serious head injuries.
The person responsible for the attack has not been arrested.
Melissa Blair is refusing to provide the name of her protector to detectives, Cottam said.
The Blairs have been married about eight years. Each has called police in the past to report incidents of domestic violence, Cottam said.
David Blair is being treated at Sacred Heart Medical Center. His condition was downgraded from critical to serious Wednesday night.
