Teens Robbed While Walking Home

Brian Coddington Staff Writer

Two Spokane Valley teenagers were robbed early Saturday morning while walking to their homes.

The victims - a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl - told sheriff’s deputies that a man jumped out of a blue Geo Metro and grabbed the boy’s jacket and two necklaces.

The teenagers then ran home as the car and its three occupants then raced off.

The car had been following the teens for several blocks, said Lt. David Wiyrick. Minutes earlier, the car had driven by the teens three times, flashing its headlights twice before stopping the third time near Vista Road and Knox Avenue, Wiyrick said.

The man in the back seat demanded the boy’s coat and the teens ran and hid. The car caught the teens in front of the Days Inn, 1919 N. Hutchinson, when they started to walk home again a few minutes later and the man robbed the boy.

Deputies are looking for the driver of the car and her two passengers.

The driver was described as an 18-year-old female, heavy set, with blond or light brown shoulder-length hair.

The man who robbed the boy was about 18 years old, 6 feet tall, 150 pounds with brown hair and eyes.

Teens lead trooper on chase

Two teenagers were arrested in a stolen car after leading a Washington State Patrol trooper on a 14-mile high-speed chase through the Valley.

The trooper spotted the white Chevrolet Camaro on Idaho Road last Wednesday night and tried to stop it near Euclid Avenue and Arden Road, but it sped away, Wiyrick said.

After weaving through light traffic, the 16-year-old driver stopped the car in an alley at the end of Myrtle Road near Third Avenue. The driver and his 15-year-old passenger were arrested.

Speeds during the chase topped 100 miles per hour.

The car had been reported stolen from a house in the 4600 block of North Darin Street, Wiyrick said. The house had also been burglarized.

Boy charged with burglary

Deputies charged a 15-year-old boy Saturday with stealing a portable stereo from a house in the 10500 block of East 15th Avenue.

The boy got into the house through an unlocked door about 2 a.m. and took the stereo, Wiyrick said.
