Anti-Nuclear Group Says It Placed Bomb

Compiled From Wire Services

A group protesting French nuclear testing in the South Pacific has claimed responsibility for the bomb attack on a French consulate and bank early this month, police said Thursday.

The Jan. 3 blast blew out windows at the Paribas Bank, which also houses the French consulate in this central Dutch city, but injured nobody.

A group calling itself ANGST sent a letter to the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant claiming responsibility for the blast and threatening “to respond to every French nuclear test with a similar attack,” police spokesman Jos Rouwen said.

ANGST is the acronym in Dutch for “silent anti-nuclear counteroffensive group.”

Rouwen said the group was previously unknown.
