Nancy Jennings Spokane
Memorial service for Nancy Ambrose Jennings, 81, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Riverview Care Center Chapel. Private inurnment will follow at St. Stephen’s Columbarium. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Jennings, who was born in Washington, D.C., died Sunday.
She graduated from the Madeira School in 1932 and attended George Washington University as a Pi Beta Phi until 1934, when she joined her parents in Shanghai, China. Her two years there initiated a lifelong interest in Chinese culture.
In 1938 she married Dennison Cooke Ambrose of MacKay, Idaho, in Portsmouth, Va. The couple later divorced.
Mrs. Jennings resided in the Washington, D.C., area before moving to Spokane in 1984. Prior to her retirement, she worked for the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Survivors include one daughter, Cary Miller of Hayden Lake, Idaho; one son, Warner Ambrose of Carson City, Nev.; two brothers, C.B. Jennings of Wilmington, N.C., and L.B. (Boots) Jennings of Chevy Chase, Md.; and one grandson.
Emma Sheridan Spokane
Service for Emma L. Sheridan, 85, is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Riverview Abbey Chapel, 0319 S. W. Taylors Ferry Road in Portland. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Mrs. Sheridan, born in Needmore, Okla., died Monday.
She grew up in Longview, Wash., and moved to Spokane in 1986. She was a watercolor artist and a member of the Audubon Park United Methodist Church.
Most recently she was a resident of Fairwood Retirement Village.
Her husband, Bernard Sheridan, died in 1985.
Survivors include two daughters Patricia Stever of Vancouver, Wash., and Nancy Butler of Spokane; one son, Jack Sheridan of Houston; four brothers, Charles King of Longview, Jack King and George King, both of Kelso, and William King of Astoria, Ore.; one sister, Rosella Beckwith of Longview; 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Roberto DeCaro Spokane
Funeral Mass for Roberto Serafino DeCaro, 70, is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. DeCaro, who was born in Italy, died Monday.
He came from Italy with his sister in 1948, then returned to Italy to get married in 1963.
A member of the Steelworkers Union, he worked for Aeroliner Trailer, then Alloy Trailers.
Survivors include his wife, Silvana DeCaro; one son, Fred DeCaro of Phoenix; two daughters, Patricia DeCaro and Roberta DeCaro, both of Spokane; his brother, Silvio DeCaro of Spokane; two sisters Fiammetta Castino of Spokane and Josephine Greco of Vancouver, British Columbia.
Russ Lindquist Spokane
Service for Russ I. Lindquist, 81, is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mr. Lindquist, who was born in Cheney, died Monday.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Washington University, and his master’s from Washington State University.
He taught fifth and sixth grades, became an elementary principal at Prospect Point in Walla Walla, a high school principal at Prescott, and a Superintendent of Schools at Tekoa, Wash. He retired as superintendent of schools at Riverside in the Chattaroy area.
He was a charter member of the Phi Delta Kappa, president of the Spokane area Superintendent Association, and president of the Walla Walla Science Teachers Association. He was also a member of Kiwanis and Lions Club.
Mr. Lindquist had also been listed in “Who’s Who in the West.”
Survivors include his wife, Jean Lindquist; two sons Ronald Lindquist of Reston, Va., and Raymond Lindquist of Nine Mile Falls; one brother, Robert Lindquist of Cheney; and seven grandchildren.
Marvin Simpson Mount Carmel, Ill.
Service for Marvin A. Simpson, 78, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mr. Simpson, who was born in Albion, Ill., died Monday in Mount Carmel, Ill., where he had lived since 1989.
He had lived in Spokane for 41 years.
He served in the Army during World War II and had retired from Ives Laboratories.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Carmel and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Albion, Ill., the Scottish Rite Bodies and the El Katif Shrine Temple, where he was a member of the greeters unit.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Simpson of Mount Carmel; one son, Peter Simpson of Virgina Beach, Va.; one daughter, Barbara Simpson Arnold of Veradale; and eight grandchildren.
Hildegarde Dillon Spokane
Service for Hildegarde Thorpe Kasenberg Dillon, 84, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mrs. Dillon, who was born in Wichita, Kan., died Tuesday.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Cecil Dillon, died in 1982.
Survivors include her son, Jack Dillon of Friday Harbor, Wash.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Robert McIntyre Spokane
A graveside service for Robert B. McIntyre, 85, is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McIntyre, who was born in Winipeg, Manitoba, died Monday.
He came to Spokane with his family in 1917.
He served in the Pacific theatre with the Marines during World War II.
Mr. McIntyre had been a truck driver, and was a member of Teamsters Local No. 690.
Survivors include his wife, Helen McIntyre; one son, Dick McIntyre of Helena; one daughter, Marie Peterson of Klamath Falls, Ore.; one brother, E.W. Harrison of Spokane; and two grandchildren.
Margaret Boynton Spokane
Service for Margaret Boynton, 82, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Boynton, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Monday.
She was a member of the Spokane Mushroom Club and Zion Lutheran Church in Deer Park.
Her husband, Edmond Boynton, died in 1993.
Survivors include one son, Everett Boynton of Colbert; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Marie Bussard Metaline Falls, Wash.
Graveside service for Marie T. Bussard, 86, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home of Davenport is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bussard, who was born in York, Neb., died Tuesday.
Her husband, Charles Bussard, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Joe Bussard of Davenport, Wash.; and four grandchildren.
Martin Wolsborn Ritzville, Wash.
Service for Martin R. Wolsborn, 101, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Danekas Funeral Home, Ritzville. Burial will follow at the Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Wolsborn, a life-long resident of Ritzville, died Sunday.
He was a farmer and lived his entire life within six miles of the place where he was born.
He was a member of the Philadelphia Congregational Church, the Washington State Association of Wheat Growers and the Ritzville Gritman Senior Center.
Survivors include one niece, Lois Every of Peoria, Ariz.; and two nephews, Bill Wolsborn of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Milton Wolsborn of Gresham, Ore.
Margarete Rolland Spokane
Service for Margarete J. Rolland, 83, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bowdish Chapel. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Rolland, who was born in Huntington, W. Va., died Sunday.
She was a 53-year resident of Spokane.
She was an electrocardiogram technician for St. Luke’s, Deaconess and Holy Family hospitals before retiring in 1986.
Mrs. Rolland was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 10th Ward; and the Spokane Poetry Scribes.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Rolland; one son, R.C. Rolland of Houston; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Myron Nieuwenhuis Spokane
Service for Myron Nieuwenhuis, 56, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.
Mr. Nieuwenhuis, who was born in Valentine, Neb., died Sunday.
He came to Spokane in 1964, and was a carpenter for commercial and residential construction. He had also worked for Smathers Construction.
He was a member of Eagles.
Survivors include three sons, Steven Nieuwenhuis of Methow, Wash., David Nieuwenhuis of Deer Park, Daniel Nieuwenhuis of Meridian, Texas; one daughter, Dawn Harbison of Clifton, Texas; and eight grandchildren.
Roland Hanson Spokane
Service for Roland A. Hanson, 64, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Pines Cemetery.
Mr. Hanson, who was born in Pelican Rapids, Minn., died Sunday.
He served in the Army and worked for Kaiser Trentwood for 27 years before retiring in 1992.
He married Verna Gier in 1965 in Post Falls.
They were foster parents for approximately 15 years for many children in the Spokane area.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Survivors include three daughters, Janis Childress of Otis Orchards, and Diane Christensen and Tamie Lewis, both of Spokane; one adopted son, Dustin Moore of Spokane; his mother, Selma Hanson of Fergus Falls, Minn.; and six grandchildren.
Marie Diard Spokane
Memorial service for Marie Diard, 74, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at 1655 E. Bismark, Spokane. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and cremation.
Mrs. Diard, who was born in Worley, Idaho, died Jan. 7.
She was a graduate of Priest River High School.
She had been employed by Webster Lumber Co. and Columbia Lighting Co. She also had been a memorial counselor at Greenwood Memorial Park for five years.
Mrs. Diard was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Eagles.
Survivors include two sisters, Helen Cain and Roberta Shephard, both of Spokane; and one brother, Len Cleek of Hawaii.
Betty Dupre Spokane
At her request, no services will be held for Betty Ruth Dupre, 72. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dupre, who was born in Opp, Ala., died Sunday.
She had worked as a nurse’s aide.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Dupre; and two sisters, Edna Nota of Minnesota and Mary Krockmal of Indiana.
Helen Alvis Spokane
At her request no services are scheduled for Helen L. Alvis, 80. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation and arrangements.
Mrs. Alvis, who was born in Leroy, Ill., died Jan. 19.
She worked at Sacred Heart Medical Center for more than 20 years as a licensed practical nurse.
She was a member of Eagles Aerie No. 2, Moose Lodge No. 161 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Woman’s Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters, Dicksy Pierson and Linda Dahlstrom, and one son, Del Keeling, all of Spokane; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Gladys Taylor Spokane
At her request, no services are scheduled for Gladys V. Taylor, 98. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Taylor, who was born in Horse Heaven Hills, Wash., died Jan. 14.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Cameron of Spokane and Jane Harris of New York City, N.Y.; one son, Rex Ashlock of San Francisco; one brother, Ervin Webber of Davenport, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren.
Leona Swecker Spokane
At the request of the family, no services will be held for Leona A. Swecker, 66. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Swecker died last Friday.
Survivors include two sons, David Swecker and Gerald Swecker, and one daughter, Linda Haley, all of Spokane; one sister, Ivadel Young of Pullman; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Iona Mickey Spokane

Mrs. Mickey, who was born in Judith Basin, Mont., died Jan. 16.
She was a homemaker and lived most of her adult life in Spokane.
Her husband, Paul Mickey, died in 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Mickey of Redmond, Wash., and Jerry Mickey of New York; one daughter, Janice Aguirre of Priest Lake, Idaho; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Matilda Schmick Spokane
Service for Matilda “Tillie” Schmick, 85, was held Monday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash., with burial in the Colfax Cemetery.
Mrs. Schmick, who was born in Russia, died Jan. 18.
She came to Canada with her family when she was 2.
Her husband, Henry Schmick, died in 1992.
Survivors include five children, Shirley Brannan of St. John, Wash., Lois Zimmermann of Lynden, Wash., Joanne Schmick of Spokane, Bob Schmick of Otis Orchards and Faye Lang of Canby, Ore.; four sisters, Emma Strasdin of Sommers, Mont., Louise Palmer of Cory, Colo., and Mary Schmick and Betty Tregoning, both of Seattle; three brothers, Elmer Schmick and Herb Schmick, both of Colfax, and Richard Schmick of Foster City, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bessie Frederick Spokane
Memorial service for Bessie L. Frederick, 89, was held Jan. 16 at the Foothills Community Church. Hazen-Jaeger Valley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Frederick, who was born in Pomona, Mo., died Jan. 13.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Frederick of Spokane and David Frederick of Arnold, Calif.; three daughters, Roberta Olinger, Joan Anderson and Jean Paterson, all of Spokane; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Donald McDonald Spokane
Memorial service for Donald R. McDonald, 67, will be held in Omak, Wash., at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. McDonald, who was born in Kellogg, died Jan. 18.
He worked for Crown Zellerbach, which is now Omak Wood Products, as a machinist and finisher.
Survivors include his wife, Jeweldine; three sons, Dennis McDonald of Chelan, Wash., Bill McDonald of Wenatchee and Steve McDonald of Omak; one brother, Richard Bair of Chelan; and six grandchildren.
Thomas Stevenson Spokane
Private service will be held for Thomas S. Stevenson, 59. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Stevenson, who was born in Lewiston, died Jan. 16.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and then served in the National Guard for two years.
He was employed at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital, where he trained as an X-ray technician.
Mr. Stevenson volunteered at the Valley Food Bank for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Jaymie Tiffany of Spokane and Tomasina Wall of Columbus, Ohio; his mother, Charlotte Stevenson of Spokane; one sister, Susan Berglund of Otis Orchards; and six grandchildren.
