Washington Georgia Congressman Clocks 10,000th Vote

Compiled From Wire Services

Georgia Sen. Sam Nunn cast his 10,000th vote in the Senate on Friday, becoming only the 17th senator to reach that milestone.

The vote came on a procedural motion during debate on a stopgap spending bill to keep the government open past midnight Friday.

“I can’t say that I’ve enjoyed every vote I’ve cast here; some of them have been agonizing,” said Nunn, who came to the Senate in 1972 and is retiring when his term ends this year.

“And I can’t say that I’ve enjoyed every hour that I’ve served here, but I can say I’ve enjoyed every day I’ve served here and I will always cherish as long as I live my service in the United States Senate.”

Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., ranks first with 14,279 votes.
