Clerk Out Of Hospital After Assault By Man

From Staff And Wire Reports

A convenience store clerk was released from the hospital early Saturday after he was injured in a botched robbery attempt.

Police said a man tried to steal two cases of beer from the 7-Eleven at 1006 W. Garland about 11:25 p.m. Friday. When the 71-year-old clerk tried to stop him, the man hit the clerk in the chest and pushed him over a display, police said.

Four customers grabbed the man and held him until police arrived.

Police charged Joseph Arnold Knox, 18, who gave his address as 139 W. Amherst Court, with first-degree robbery.

Knox tried to leave with the beer while the clerk was waiting on another customer, police said.

The clerk complained of chest pains and was taken to the hospital. He was treated and released.
