Ray Kenney Earns Eagle Scout Award
Ray Kenney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard M. Kenney, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Kenney, a Lewis and Clark senior, is a member of Troop 324.
His Eagle project was a sign map for the Centennial Trail between the Idaho border and Riverfront Park. His map will enable the park rangers to keep the signs maintained and replaced if necessary.
Kurtis Walton, Spokane Falls Community College student body president, was the only student from Washington state to earn a certified student leader designation during the 30th National Conference on Student Services in Washington, D.C.
Walton, who is pursuing an associate arts degree, was one of 99 students nationwide to pass an intensive course with a high enough grade to become certified.
Michelle Semple, a Shadle Park High School graduate, earned a varsity letter from the Beloit College women’s soccer team. Semple played in all 16 games, mostly as a goal keeper, allowing 36 goals with 112 saves. She also scored two goals while playing in the field.
Samuel Smith, Washington State University president since 1985, has written a chapter for “Perspectives on Leadership in Facilities Management,” a book published by the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers.
Smith’s chapter, “Educational Leadership: The Role of Facilities in Educational Excellence,” is based on his keynote address to the association’s 1992 annual meeting.
The University of the State of New York, Regents College, graduated three students from Spokane last fall:
Ryan Andrew Blackwell and Brent W. Odegaard, received bachelors of science in liberal studies, and Gretchen R. Serafini, received an associate in applied science in nursing.
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Aaron E. Betz, son of John E. Betz, Othello, Wash., recently received the Navy’s Good Conduct Medal recognizing honest and faithful service during a four-year period.
Betz is assigned aboard the amphibious transport dock USS Dubuque, forward deployed to Sasebo, Japan. He joined the Navy in 1991. , DataTimes ILLUSTRATION: Photo
