Aikman’s Not A Switzer Fan
Troy Aikman, 3-for-3 as a Super Bowl quarterback, isn’t fully satisfied - in fact, he may not even be particularly happy.
And he might have triggered more controversy with comments about Cowboys’ coach Barry Switzer.
that believes in each other. ” Aikman, winning for the 10th time in 11 career playoff games, hit 15 of 23 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown, a 3-yard toss to tight end Jay Novacek.
As in his previous two Super Bowls, Aikman had no interceptions or fumbles.
The win culminated a frustrating season for Aikman, who had problems with the philosophy of Switzer. In fact, Switzer and Aikman will have an off-season talk about a season of inner strife on the team.
“We had our problems but we got back on track and it showed the confidence and the character this team has,” Aikman said. “This was the sweetest of our Super Bowl wins.”
In the ringing endorsement category: when asked whether Barry Switzer is a good coach, Aikman said, “Umm, I don’t know. I mean, we win our games, if that’s what a good coach is. I mean, I really don’t know how to answer that question.”
Aikman also told Chris Collingsworth he was disappointed that Switzer was a lax disciplinarian and that he did miss Jimmy Johnson.
“If I wasn’t playing in Dallas, I wouldn’t mind playing in Miami,” he said. “Of course, they have a pretty good quarterback down there already.”
Later in the post-game show, Switzer answered Aikman’s charges.
“I don’t understand (the lack of discipline comment),” he said. “People always think we’re in disarray but we’re not.”
