Armed Standoff In Mead Area Ends Peacefully With Surrender

From Staff And Wire Reports

An armed man who had been distressed for several days held off sheriff’s deputies for seven hours Sunday in a Mead neighborhood.

The 45-year-old man, whose name was not released, surrendered shortly after 7 p.m.

“He has had access to a sizable number of firearms,” said Sheriff’s Lt. Gary Waterhouse, adding that the department dealt with the man in the past.

About 5 p.m., the man left his mobile home near Peone and Fairview carrying a shotgun. He then hopped in his car and tried to drive off, but his tires were punctured by a spike belt. For the next two hours, negotiators coaxed the man to turn himself in.

The Sheriff’s Department had unconfirmed reports that the man threatened to shoot anyone who came through the neighborhood.

It was not clear why the man was distressed. His wife and children were not home when the standoff began.

Several homes were evacuated, and deputies blocked off traffic to the area. , DataTimes
