Alltus Bill Will Limit Public Funds For Lobbying

From Staff And Wire Reports

Rep. Jeff Alltus, R-Coeur d’Alene, will propose legislation in the House State Affairs committee today that would crack down on public funds being used for lobbying.

Alltus said public money is being used to work against what people really want. The recent term limit legislation, he said, was a perfect example.

The Association of Idaho Cities and the Association of Idaho Counties, both publicly funded groups, opposed term limits. But the measure passed.

Said Alltus, “Why did taxpayer dollars go to pay for what people didn’t want?”

Scott McDonald, lobbyist for the Association of Idaho Cities, said his group still opposes term limits.

McDonald also said that the information provided by lobbying groups helps lawmakers make better decisions.
