Man Drives Truck Into Child-Support Office
A disgruntled man drove a half-ton pickup truck into Spokane’s child-support enforcement office Monday night. The truck smashed through the plate-glass office front at 1608 W. Boone, scattering papers, computers and office equipment.
The office’s laser printer and copy machine were destroyed, authorities said.
Mark T. Heitman, 42, of Spokane turned himself in to the Spokane County Jail immediately after the 9:30 p.m. crash.
Police said Heitman was upset with the state office, which enforces court-ordered child support.
“Enough is enough,” he told KXLY-TV. “They don’t give people a fair break.”
Two empty beer cans were on the floor of the truck, and the cab smelled strongly of beer.
John Rodriguez, an office supervisor, was called in to start cleaning up. He said the office occasionally receives threats from angry deadbeat parents.
“We get some of this stuff, but never like this,” said Rodriguez.
