Skiers, Snowboarder Die In Separate Accidents

From Staff And Wire Reports

Two skiers and a snowboarder, gliding along at different Oregon resorts, decided to leave the comparative safety of groomed trails for the thrill of deep, tree-studded snow.

They all met the same fate in one of Oregon’s deadliest winter sports weekends.

James Scariot landed headfirst Saturday in a hole in the snow formed by a large tree at Hoodoo Ski Bowl west of Sisters. The 22-year-old assistant football coach at Willamette University was dead when he was found the next morning.

Sixty miles to the north, Kyle Curran crashed into a snow bank at Mount Hood Skibowl. The West Linn 16-year-old, who was at the mountain to participate in a high school competition, suffered fatal head injuries.

On Sunday, a 33-year-old Tigard man was snowboarding at night in an unlit area at Mount Hood Meadows with his brother and a friend when they sailed into a creek bed. William Jameson hit his head on a rock and died.
