Teenager’s Newborn Found Dead In Car Trunk
A baby delivered by a 16-year-old Bellevue girl at her home was found dead in a trash bag in the trunk of the family car, police said.
The teen, whose name was not released, told authorities she had given birth to a girl but she was stillborn. She said she was scared and put the baby in a plastic trash bag, then placed her in the trunk of the car until she could figure out what to do.
The parents didn’t know their daughter was pregnant, police said.
The birth was discovered when the teen went to Overlake Hospital on Sunday and doctors determined she was suffering from medical problems associated with childbirth.
Police found the body of the newborn in the trunk of a gray Honda parked in the family’s garage. The teen, who was not arrested, was released from the hospital Monday.
Police are investigating the death as a homicide as they await a report from the King County medical examiner’s office.
