Phillips Pleads Not Guilty
Lawrence Phillips, top draft pick of the St. Louis Rams, pleaded innocent in El Monte, Calif., to misdemeanor drunken driving.
The former University of Nebraska running back was not present. Attorney Karen Filipi entered the plea before Commissioner Jose A. Rodriguez in Rio Hondo Municipal Court.
Trial was set for Aug. 28.
University of Miami special teams player Tremain Mack, who has been charged five times in the last four years for crimes ranging criminal trespass to assaulting a police officer, faces a July 12 arraignment in Texas on a bad-check charge, the Miami Herald reported.
Mack becomes the 11th Hurricanes player to have run afoul of the law. In the past month, five have been suspended and two kicked out of school.
