Cruise Canceled After Fire On Ship

The remainder of a 10-day Alaskan Inside Passage cruise aboard the Golden Princess was canceled on Sunday, one day after a fire in the ship’s engine room.

Minor damage to the ship’s propulsion system will take a few days to repair, said Julie Benson, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles-based Princess Cruises.

The 839 passengers aboard the Golden Princess were to spend Sunday night on the ship, which is docked in Victoria, British Columbia.

The 685-foot ship was towed about 60 miles to Victoria on Saturday after going dead in the water off the northwestern tip of Washington’s Olympic Peninsula at the entrance to the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
