The Principal Financial Group plans to more than double the size of its Spokane Pension Center office by the end of next year.

The Des Moines, Iowa-based insurance and financial services company will lease 40,000 square feet in the new Rock Pointe III office building to accommodate a total of 200 employees.

The company currently leases 12,000 square feet in Rock Pointe Tower, where it has 70 employees.

“Spokane … has been a tremendous place for The Principal to grow,” said Judy DeBord, director of the pension center. The growth is consistent with the company’s original plans for Spokane.

The move to Rock Pointe III is scheduled for Aug. 17 to 18. The address will change, but the phone number will remain the same.

The Principal has two other Spokane offices, a life insurance agency and a residential lending office.

The pension center opened in the spring of 1995 and serves about 3,500 employer pension customers in the western region.
