Martin Wins Pocono Pole
Mark Martin was easily the fastest qualifier in the rain-delayed finish to time trials for the Miller 500 at Pocono Raceway.
Martin, driving a Ford Thunderbird, turned a lap of 168.410 mph, earning his second pole position of the season and the 30th of his Winston Cup career.
Morgan Shepherd made it an all-Ford front row for today’s race with a lap of 167.482. He was followed by the Chevrolet Monte Carlo of Bobby Labonte at 167.479, the Ford of Geoff Bodine at 166.957 and the Pontiac Grand Prix of Ward Burton at 166.945 and Johnny Benson Jr. at 166.741.
