Allen Leaves Egghead Board
Egghead Inc. said Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft Corp., will step down from its board and be replaced by Eric Robison, a representative from Allen’s investment firm.
Other commitments forced Allen to depart after nine years on the software retailer’s board, he said.
Allen started Microsoft in 1975 with his high school friend and company Chairman Bill Gates. Allen has invested his money in several technology and on-line companies, including Egghead.
Allen’s private investment firm, Vulcan Ventures Inc., finances startup technology companies. Vulcan executives represent Allen’s interests by sitting on the boards of some of those companies.
Egghead, based in Spokane, is one of the largest retailers of software and video game equipment. Egghead move its corporate headquarters to Spokane last year. The company has scrambled to absorb the expenses of the move ever since, and has suffered losses in recent quarters.
Earlier this year, Egghead sold its corporate, government and education sales division - which accounted for roughly half its income - in order to concentrate solely on its retail business.
