Lamm, Perot Picked As Finalists

Associated Press

The Reform Party certified Ross Perot and Richard Lamm on Monday to square off for the party’s presidential nomination as some Lamm supporters complained the selection process was tilted in Perot’s favor.

According to “partial results” released Monday night by the Lamm campaign, the former Colorado governor got 27.8 percent support from Reform Party members who answered a mail-in survey and Perot got 64.6 percent.

No one besides Perot and Lamm actively sought the nomination, which required at least 10 percent support to become a finalist. But 7.6 percent of the survey ballots sent in listed “other” candidates, the Lamm campaign said, without revealing the names of the also-rans.

The Reform Party, which provided the preliminary results to Lamm at his request, planned to publicly release full results today.

The Reform Party, which claims 1.3 million members, sent out 980,000 ballots.

But only 43,058 were returned - or only 4.4 percent - according to the partial results released by the Lamm campaign.
